The trail to the Johannes Waterfall is one of the most popular short hikes in Obertauern. It leads through pristine larch forests to one of the region's most impressive natural spectacles, where the water plunges more than 60 meters down.
- Location & Accessibility: The starting point is the car park at Gnadenalm (approx. 4 km below the mountain pass, heading towards Radstadt) or directly from Felseralm. The trail is excellently signposted and leads down into the gorge of the Johannes Waterfall.

The "Alles-Leinwand" Circuit (Grünwaldsee) – An Alpine Experience for Families and Connoisseurs
This leisurely circular hike leads right into the summer leisure paradise surrounding Grünwaldsee and Krummschnablsee. It connects idyllic mountain lakes with numerous places to stop for refreshments and attractions for visitors of all ages.
- Location & Accessibility: To save yourself the climb, you can take a comfortable ride on the Grünwaldkopfbahn lift from Obertauern up to the mountain station at 1,966 meters. From there, a leisurely circular trail around the lakes begins; you can return to the valley either on foot or by taking the lift back down.

The Große Seekarspitze is one of the most striking panoramic peaks surrounding the Obertauern ski bowl. Those seeking a genuine high-alpine challenge—and wishing to enjoy a magnificent panorama stretching from the Niedere Tauern range all the way to the Dachstein—should choose this demanding mountain tour.
- Location & Accessibility: The hike begins right at the mountain pass in Obertauern (1,662 meters). The ascent follows the Seekarhaus road up to Seekarsee lake and continues over steep, rocky terrain to the summit at an impressive 2,485 meters.
- Difficulty: Difficult (Black mountain trail – surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential near the summit).
- Key Facts: Length: approx. 9.5 km | Hiking time: approx. 4 to 4.5 hours | Elevation gain/loss: approx. 820 vertical meters.
- Character: High alpine, rugged, and rewarding. After the steep final push over scree and boulders, you are rewarded at the summit cross with a breathtaking 360-degree view.
