The infamous cult steep slope
Gamsleiten 2 (G2)
The Gamsleiten 2 (piste no. 2a) is an Alpine legend. It is not only the sporting flagship of Obertauern but is also considered one of the steepest groomed runs and most extreme mogul slopes in Europe—an absolute status symbol for any professional skier.
- Location & Access: The slope is situated on the striking Gamsleitenspitze peak. You can reach the starting point—at an altitude of 2,313 meters—exclusively via the nostalgic Gamsleitenbahn II two-seater chairlift (boarding is in the ski area section south of the mountain pass, via the Gamsleiten 1 run).
- Difficulty: Double black (extremely difficult / expert level)
- Key Facts: Length: approx. 1 km | Vertical drop: 362 m | Gradient: up to 100% (approx. 45 degrees)
- Character: Uncompromisingly steep. Depending on the time of day, the slope transforms into a wall of massive, hard moguls or—following fresh snowfall—offers a spectacular, secured freeride experience. A fall here usually results in sliding all the way down to the valley floor.

A paradise for sporty carvers
The Zehnerkar Run
The Zehnerkar run (piste no. 1a) is the perfect run for those who enjoy wide, sporty turns. As part of the "Super Seven" (the ski area's seven highest points), it offers excellent grip and varied terrain.
- Location & Accessibility: The run begins at the top station of the state-of-the-art Zehnerkarbahn lift—situated at an altitude of 2,194 meters on the western edge of the slope basin—and descends as a long, sweeping red run back to the valley station by the mountain pass road.
- Difficulty: Red (Intermediate)
- Key Facts: Length: approx. 2.2 km | Vertical drop: approx. 500 m
- Character: Extremely wide, with perfectly undulating terrain and excellent visibility. Ideal for the morning—when the snow has been freshly groomed—to carve high-speed turns into the snow.

The freeride and panoramic treat
The Hundskogel descent & route
The runs around the Hundskogel (piste no. 4a / ski route) showcase Obertauern’s wild yet stunning side. From up here, you enjoy one of the best views of the entire ski area and the adjacent Dachstein Massif.
- Location & Access: The starting point is the top station of the Hundskogelbahn lift, situated at an elevation of exactly 2,192 meters in the northeastern sector of the Tauernrunde circuit.
- Difficulty: Red, with black variants/ski routes (intermediate to difficult)
- Key Facts: Length: approx. 1.8 km | Vertical drop: approx. 340 m
- Character: The standard red run offers pure skiing enjoyment with great changes of rhythm. However, the real highlight for expert skiers is the adjoining freeride ski route: wide deep-snow slopes featuring small rocky couloirs that—especially after fresh snowfall—guarantee a genuine "Alaska feel" right here in Salzburg.
